Day #6 – Busy Mom’s Spring Cleaning Challenge

(Please read some rule clarification at the bottom of this post!  Thanks!)

Put on some music, grab a rag and spray bottle of your favorite furniture polish and wipe down all those flat, dust-catching surfaces.  Don’t forget the picture frames and lamps, your coffee table and nightstands! This is a great task to get your little ones involved in, especially if you’re using a non-toxic polish (like my recipe below).  Give them a rag and have them follow along behind you.

My favorite furniture polish recipe:
1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup lemon juice

Just mix them together in a spare spray bottle and watch those wood surfaces shine!  Be sure and comment below when you finish!  I will be posting before and after pictures of each task on my facebook page.  I’d be thrilled if you’d join me.

Extra Credit ideas for the Super-Motivated:

Since you already have that rag in hand, dust off the extra-dusty forgotten surfaces, like the top of your fridge, top of the door frames, or (if you’re brave enough) that dust-prone utility room.

To find a complete list of upcoming challenges and see the prizes waiting for you at the end, check out this post.

day 1

I’ve been thrilled by the response to this challenge so far!  You all are doing great and are so motivating for me!  Just one little request…

It’s perfectly fine to do tasks early or late as needed (provided they all happen before the end of the month), but please be sure that you comment on that task’s specific post or it will not be counted.  When I assemble check-list style of who’s done what, it makes my paperwork much less complicated if I don’t have to collect information from a gazillion posts at once.

So, if you’re catching up (or being super productive), don’t comment on Day 6 that you did Days 1-6 and went ahead and did Day 12 and Day 19 too.  Instead, please comment “Done!” on each individual post and remember to do so on any future posts.   It makes my job so much easier!

Also, you are welcome to comment on Saturday/Sunday posts but are not required to.

That’s all!  Continue being awesome!

I have been staring up at my ceiling fan in my bedroom for *months* (embarrassed grin), thinking, I need to dust that thing! When you can see dust on the underside, you know that it’s bad. In fact, I don’t know that I have dusted my ceiling fan since we moved in over a year ago…okay, now I guess I really should be embarrassed… 🙂 But, hey!, I was busy playing with children. And, I now know that the builders of this house spent their extra time and money to put trim on the INSIDES of the closets. That seems a little excessive to me. But, everything is now dusted. Yay for a dust-free ceiling fan finally!

Ewww! The tops of all those door frames were quite nasty! Do you have a good recipe for a natural all purpose cleaner?

At this point, I just use a store-bought brand. But I’d be interested in a cheap, more kid-friendly recipe!

  3. Carrie M says:

Done. I use the same polishing recipe. Love it! For a natural all-purpose cleaner, I use 50/50 vinegar/water or just straight peroxide. Both have great disinfecting properties and are cheap!

  4. Becke says:

done. and inspired by Kaylee to dust my ceiling fans too.

I’ve loved dusting, since I was a little, little girl and I was getting a huge kick out of having my little girl help me with this, because she was spraying cleaner on absolutely every surface of the house. I guess that helped me really get everything clean! So, funny… since we decided to skip some of our usual Thursday routine & weren’t rushing, that is!

  8. Stephanie says:

    All done here.

  9. Alina says:

I did this if just forgot to post it yesterday 🙂 Finished all the dusting after my kids went to bed last night!

Today I went back and detail dusted the fridge, door frames, tops of furniture, and ceiling fans. It was not my proudest 30 minutes.
