Five Years in Pictures

It’s our 5 Year Anniversary!  We’re like old married people now. 😉  In honor of this festive day, I’ll be sharing a 5 year photo tour and a bunch of random Joshua & Kelsey facts.  Enjoy!5003_107732654880_5978795_n

My husband and I can’t remember the first time we met. I do remember his older sister teaching me gymnastics when I was 6 or 7, but I’m pretty sure I knew Joshua before that. He simply has always been there.

We first held hands in Edinburgh Castle, Scotland on wonderful trip with my family. Ever since then, seeing castles or reading up on medieval history brings up all sorts of romantic memories to mind.

Joshua proposed after 6 months of courtship (yep, we did the whole courtship thing) and we got married 6 months later.  We both knew we were meant for each other after the first week.  To be fair, I knew I’d marry him years earlier, but it took him a bit to get the idea himself.

He got on one knee in the middle of a dance and I said yes by surprising him with our first kiss.

I let my hair grow out for my wedding and cut it on our honeymoon.

My husband’s huge smile in this picture always cracks me up.  It was the night before our wedding and he was a happy fiance.

And the next morning, I was a happy bride.

Brace yourselves for a kissy pic.

Our first year was filled with adventure.  12841_196125299877_6816418_n (1)

Nine months later we embarked on the most life-changing adventure of all. Parenthood!

Gabriel arrived after we had been married for a year and a half, all magical and fragile 5 lbs of him.

His name means “Strong Man of God”. From the very beginning, he has had a strong will and die-hard personality. (Yes, those are cheerios in his mouth. Even THAT wouldn’t make him keep his mouth closed for family photos)

It has been a pleasure watching him grow and mature. Eventually, we know he will use that strong will of his for good.

Even though we had our hands full as new parents, Joshua still asked me to dance.

We saw good days (like when we were surprised to find we were expecting again) and we saw hard days (like when we lost our baby Aaron).

Matthias followed nearly a year afterward. His name means Gift of God, and he was a gift that was prayed for and received gratefully from the very beginning.

Matthias was born with a head full of bleach blonde hair. This was a surprise, since I had always matched the name Matthias to a dark-haired child. God has a sense of humor sometimes.

Matthias has basically been a  mini Joshua clone, both in looks and personality. Just look at these comparison pictures. That’s Matthias on the left and my husband’s childhood picture on the right.

Maybe this next child will look like me.

It has been a wonderful 5 years. My husband has loved me, cherished me, protected me, and provided for me. I have done my best to honor him, follow him, and trust him with our future. If my sons turn out just like him, I will be very pleased.

We have honored God in our marriage and God has been SO faithful to bless us in return.  Happy Anniversary, my love!

Thank you, Tami. There’s a little less writing going on here because of that, but it’s all for a good cause!

This was a real treat to travel through the years with you.
A great reminder of God working in all of our lives these past 5 years!

Hi Kelsey! I just found your blog today and have found it super helpful! Thanks! I have a 3 year old and a one year old too! Except mine are girls. And I’m due with my 3rd on the 16th of Jan! I was wondering how you stay so slim in the midst of all that baby growing? Are you just super blessed in the genetics dept or do you work at it? I’m feeling quite desperate as I’ve fallen pregnant without having lost the baby weight from before.

Looks like we’re on the same baby making schedule. How fun! 😉 I’ll try and write a more detailed post about it sometime soon, since I get that question frequently. In summary though, I am still in my twenties, so being young definitely helps. My Mom never had weight problems until she hit her thirties (though she wasn’t having kids before then) and we’re built very similarly. In addition, though, I do pilates/yoga a few times a week, eat a LOT of salad, veggies, and low-cal fresh foods, and try to be really active in my lifestyle. I jump on the trampoline with the boys, spin them and toss them on the couch frequently, chase them around the lawn, etc. I am intentionally very active when I could more easily sit and watch them run around by themselves. Also, I breastfeed for the first year. All things combined, it usually takes me about 9 months to a year to lose the babyweight (and I put on 40 lbs) with my last one. Hope that helps!

Ooh, a comment! I LOVE comments!
